Learning Goal

Students will learn the importance of seeing both their strengths and weaknesses and learn steps to face their weaknesses.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the lessons, students will be able to:

  • Identify their strengths and weaknesses
  • Understand some tools to face a weakness or challenge
Learning Summary

Students can struggle to comfortably identify their strengths and weaknesses and then often don’t know what to do about their weaknesses. This lesson introduces students to strengths and weaknesses and two tools for addressing a weakness: asking for help and using courage to face it.

This lesson starts with a mindfulness practice in which students focus on their balance. The Munchy and Jumpy story then addresses the importance of identifying a challenge, asking for help, and using courage. The activity following the story encourages students to first consider all the things that are their strengths, then to think of their own areas of growth at school, and finally to consider asking for help or using courage to face challenges. Students end by reflecting in their journals by drawing a picture of themselves highlighting all their strengths.

The Mindful Moment brings some movement into online learning. Make sure your students can see you balancing on your camera. Have students turn their cameras off so they do not focus on their peers but rather on their balance.

The Munchy and Jumpy story serves as an anchor for this lesson introducing students to both their strengths and weaknesses.

This lesson does not require any modifications for live online delivery. For advanced learners, have your students write their strengths and weaknesses in a chat window for their classmates.

After the story, present the options for what we can do about our weaknesses then go to the I’m a Superhero additional activity in which students draw themselves as a superhero with strengths and a weakness shown.
